Nestled amidst the rugged beauty of Colorado’s national forests, Taylor Park Reservoir beckons with promises of adventure and tranquility. With our trusty Jeep packed and our canine companions in tow, my partner Bill and I embarked on a journey to discover the wonders of this picturesque mountain playground.
Located at a lofty elevation of 9,300 feet, Taylor Park Reservoir offers a pristine oasis for outdoor enthusiasts seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Our day began with a scenic drive over Cottonwood Pass, the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains towering overhead as we wound our way towards our destination.

Upon arriving at the reservoir, we were greeted by the sparkling waters and inviting shoreline, beckoning us to explore its depths. Setting up camp on the beach, we eagerly rented paddleboards, eager to try our hand at this new adventure. Despite the windy conditions making paddleboarding a challenge, Bill demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, navigating the waters with ease, albeit from a seated position.
While paddleboarding may not have been our forte, the dogs reveled in the opportunity to splash and play in the cool waters of the reservoir, their joyful antics adding to the ambiance of the day. Meanwhile, I found solace in the simple pleasure of sitting on the beach, listening to music, and soaking in the breathtaking mountain vistas.
As Bill cast his line in hopes of catching dinner, I marveled at the beauty that surrounded us, grateful for the opportunity to immerse ourselves in nature’s embrace. While our day at Taylor Park Reservoir may not have gone exactly as planned, it was a reminder of the beauty of spontaneity and the joy of simply being present in the moment.
As the sun dipped below the horizon and the mountains were bathed in the golden light of evening, we packed up our gear, our hearts full of memories and our spirits rejuvenated by a day well spent in the great outdoors. Until next time, Taylor Park Reservoir, we’ll cherish the memories of our mountain lake adventure.
