Bill, Greg, and I, accompanied by our furry companions, embarked on a serene autumn day nestled amidst the mountains, indulging in the simple pleasures of jeeping, fishing, picnicking, and artistic pursuits. Laden with fishing gear and a bounty of picnic delights, we eagerly set off in the Jeep toward Deckers, Co., our hearts set on the tranquil waters of the Platte River. Our journey led us along the scenic 4×4 trail of Metberry Gulch, a route known for its gentle challenges and breathtaking views of the South Platte River.

As we traversed the trail, the remnants of the Hayman Fire served as a poignant reminder of nature’s resilience, juxtaposed against the vibrant hues of the changing aspen trees. Upon reaching the river’s edge, the guys wasted no time in wading into the water, their fishing lines poised for the catch of the day. Meanwhile, I busied myself with setting up a delightful picnic spread, complete with savory steak and chicken sandwiches, crisp salads, and an assortment of snacks, albeit with a slight oversight of forgetting the apple cider.
Our furry companions, equally delighted by the river’s edge, frolic in the water, adding an extra layer of joy to our outdoor escapade. Greg’s skillful angling results in a remarkable trout catch, drawing curious glances from our canine friend, Prince. I seized the tranquil ambiance to engage in a bit of painting and reading, relishing the gentle caress of the autumn breeze. As the day unfolded in a symphony of colors and laughter, it became increasingly difficult to tear ourselves away from the idyllic riverside retreat.
As the day draws to a close, we bid adieu to our day of tranquility. Yet, with memories of a perfect day spent amidst nature’s splendor, we depart, already dreaming of our next outdoor adventure.
