Greg and I eagerly packed our gear and provisions, preparing for our annual Fourth of July weekend in Rocky Mountain National Park. With our food safely stored in the bear container, we embarked on a four-day backcountry camping trip, eager to explore new trails and immerse ourselves in the wilderness.
Setting Up Camp:
Upon arriving at our spacious campsite, nestled amidst the towering pines, we quickly set up our tent and organized our gear. With the North St Vrain Creek nearby, I ventured down to filter water, grateful for the tranquil beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Nature’s Symphony:
As the sun set behind the mountains, we were treated to the soothing sounds of the forest and the gentle murmur of the creek. Despite the occasional rain and hail, reminiscent of early July in the Rockies, we found solace in the embrace of nature.
Exploring the Wilderness:
Each morning, we awoke to the chorus of birdsong and the promise of adventure. After enjoying a hearty backcountry breakfast, we set out to explore the rugged terrain, hiking a total of 21 miles and ascending over 5,100 feet in elevation. Along the way, we encountered epic waterfalls and breathtaking alpine lakes, each vista more magnificent than the last.
Celebrating Achievement:
On our final night, we celebrated our achievement of completing all maintained trails in the Wild Basin section of Rocky Mountain National Park. With hearts full of gratitude and memories to last a lifetime, we reflected on the beauty and majesty of the wilderness that had enveloped us.
A Tribute to Nature’s Splendor:
Our Fourth of July adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park was a testament to the beauty and grandeur of the natural world. Amidst the towering peaks and verdant forests, we found peace, inspiration, and a profound sense of connection to the land.
Until Our Next Expedition:
As we bid farewell to the wilderness and the memories we had made, we carried with us a renewed appreciation for the splendor of nature. Until our next adventure, may the spirit of the mountains guide our path and fill our hearts with wonder and awe.
Happy Trails!
