Join us on a thrilling off-road adventure as we traverse the rugged terrain leading to Argentine Pass, nestled near Georgetown, Colorado. Bill and I embarked on this expedition, eager to immerse ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding landscape.
The Drive:
As we meandered along the scenic Guanella Pass Road, we found the turn-off for Argentine Pass. As we left the paved road behind, the rest of our adventure would be over rough rocky terrain. As we made our way up, we were greeted by stunning vistas and vibrant displays of mountain bluebells adorning the landscape. The journey itself was an experience, with each turn revealing new wonders to behold.
Unexpected Discoveries:
Once we reached the top and end of the road, our adventure took an unexpected turn when we stumbled upon a path leading to the Continental Divide Trail. Intrigued by the promise of adventure, I embarked on a small hike and found myself surrounded by the tranquil beauty of alpine lakes. The sight of a brilliant blue lake, its waters cascading into Horseshoe Basin, left me in awe of nature’s splendor.
Reaching New Heights:
Ascending to an elevation of 13,500 feet, we were rewarded with panoramic views of majestic peaks such as Grays, Torreys, Bierstadt, and Evans. The crisp mountain air filled our lungs as we stood in awe of the towering summits surrounding us, feeling a profound sense of connection to the wilderness.

Rich History:
Argentine Pass, once known as the “highest wagon road in Colorado,” bears testament to the state’s rich mining heritage. Originally named “Snake River Pass,” it was later christened “Argentine Pass” in homage to the Latin word “Argent,” meaning “silver,” a tribute to the area’s mining legacy.
A Day of Tranquility:
Our experience at Argentine Pass was a testament to the beauty and tranquility of Colorado’s alpine landscapes. Amidst the serene beauty of nature, we found solace and rejuvenation, grateful for the opportunity to explore and connect with the wilderness.
Until our next adventure, may you find joy in the beauty that surrounds you, and may the spirit of exploration guide your path.
