During Bill’s absence, I decided to embark on an exciting off-road adventure with my friend Irene. Our destination: Rollins Pass West Road, a historically significant mountain pass nestled at an impressive elevation of 11,676 feet. With the Jeep packed and our spirits high, we set out for a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Exploring Rollins Pass West:
As we traversed the rugged terrain, we marveled at the breathtaking scenery that unfolded before us. Our first stop was the historic train trestle, a testament to the area’s rich history and the feats of engineering that shaped its development. From there, we continued our journey, passing by notable landmarks such as Pumphouse, Corona, Deadman, and King Lakes, each offering its own unique charm and beauty. As we admired the Indian Wilderness mountains in the distance, Irene experienced the thrill of her first Continental Divide trail excursion.
Delving into History:
Rollins Pass, originally known as Boulder Pass, holds a deep historical significance dating back to over 10,000 years. Named after John Quincy Adams Rollins, who spearheaded the construction of a wagon road along the pass in 1866, the area has witnessed centuries of human travel and exploration. As we traversed the pass, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of reverence for the individuals who had traversed these same trails centuries before us, leaving behind a legacy of adventure and discovery.
Our off-road adventure to Rollins Pass was a day filled with excitement, awe, and appreciation for the rich history and natural beauty of the area. As we made our way back home, our hearts were full of memories of our exploration along the Continental Divide trail, a testament to the enduring spirit of adventure that drives us to seek out new horizons and embrace the wonders of the world around us.
