This Mother’s Day, I embarked on an unforgettable all-girls canyoneering trip to Utah, seeking adventure and inspiration in the rugged desert landscape. Over the course of two days, I discovered newfound strength and camaraderie as I navigated through the breathtaking canyons of North Wash, honing my skills and embracing the beauty of the Utah wilderness.

Day 1: Mastering Techniques in Shillelagh Canyon
Our journey began with a morning of practice and camaraderie near our campsite, where I had the pleasure of meeting new friends and honing my canyoneering techniques. Energized and ready for adventure, we made our way to Shillelagh Canyon (Left/West Fork) in North Wash. Unlike other canyons in the area, Shillelagh presented us with larger rappels and a more open terrain, offering a unique and exhilarating challenge. As we navigated through the canyon, I found myself immersed in the beauty of the landscape, feeling empowered by the thrill of exploration. In the evening, we came together for a delightful potluck dinner, sharing stories and laughter around the warmth of the campfire.

Day 2: Discovering the Spectacular Beauty of Blarney Canyon
On our second day, we set out to explore Blarney Canyon (Left Fork), eager to uncover its hidden wonders. Having previously explored the Right Fork with Bill, I was excited to experience the beauty of the left fork. The canyon greeted us with its deep, tight narrows and dramatic rock formations, inviting us to embark on an adventure filled with awe and excitement. It was here that I learned the art of building cairn anchors, adding a new skill to my repertoire and deepening my connection to the canyoneering community.

As I reflect on our Mother’s Day canyoneering trip in Utah, I am filled with gratitude for the moments of adventure, camaraderie, and personal growth that I experienced along the way. Surrounded by the majestic beauty of the Utah desert, I found strength, inspiration, and a sense of belonging in the company of fellow adventurers. This journey was not only a celebration of Mother’s Day but also a testament to the transformative power of nature and the bonds forged through shared experiences in the great outdoors.
