Venturing into the Southern Reaches
Our journey through the rugged terrain of Capitol Reef National Park took us to the lesser-known, yet equally captivating, South Draw Road. This high-clearance 4WD route promised adventure and stunning vistas as it wound its way through the heart of the park’s southern region, offering glimpses of hidden gems along the way.

Traversing Challenging Terrain
Navigating South Draw Road was not for the faint of heart, with its rugged terrain and challenging obstacles. However, the rewards were well worth the effort as we were treated to panoramic views of the iconic Capitol Reef landscape unfolding before us. Each twist and turn revealed new wonders, from towering cliffs to sweeping vistas across the vast expanse of the park.
Discovering Hidden Oases
Amidst the rugged beauty of the landscape, we stumbled upon hidden oases like Lower Bowns Reservoir nestled within Dixie National Forest. Here, we paused to admire the tranquility of the scene, watching as birds frolicked in the water and fish darted beneath the surface. It was a peaceful interlude amidst the grandeur of nature.
Embracing Winter’s Touch
As we ventured deeper into Dixie National Forest, the landscape transformed into a winter wonderland, with snow-covered forests stretching as far as the eye could see. Despite the chilly temperatures, we embraced the opportunity to frolic in the snow, reveling in the magic of the moment.

Our journey along South Draw Road was a testament to the beauty and diversity of Capitol Reef National Park.
