We made it to Canada!
After traveling about 1,700 miles by car and 13 miles by boat, we finally made it to the lovely Canadian island south of Lower Manitou Lake in Kenora, Ontario. We would call this place home for the next 6 days.

Day 1: The Bear Encounter and Kayak Mishaps
Our Canadian adventure began with a quirky start as we crossed the border in Fort Frances and headed to a charming island in Kenora, Ontario. Joined by family, our journey kicked off with a humorous mishap as we towed kayaks to the island, encountering unexpected challenges along the way. Despite the comical start, laughter filled the air as we embarked on our island getaway.
Day 2: Fishing, Exploring, and Lakeside Delights
Amidst serene waters and tranquil forests, we delved into a day of fishing and exploration. Bald eagles graced our presence as we cast our lines into the shimmering lake, enjoying the thrill of reeling in one catch after another. With bellies full from a shore lunch of freshly caught fish, we ventured into the wilderness, encountering wildlife and breathtaking vistas that painted the perfect backdrop to our island retreat.
Day 3: Kayaking Adventures and Nature’s Symphony
Navigating the island’s labyrinth of islands and bays, we embarked on a kayaking adventure, discovering hidden waterfalls and secluded coves. Amidst the tranquil beauty of the Canadian wilderness, we found solace and serenity, interrupted only by the distant rumble of thunder signaling an impending storm. Seeking refuge just in time, we huddled indoors, grateful for the warmth and safety of our island haven.
Day 4: Fireside Bliss and Lakeside Tranquility
As gray skies gave way to chilly mornings, we savored moments of fireside bliss, indulging in hearty meals and cozy conversations. Against the backdrop of pine trees swaying in the wind, we found solace in the simple pleasures of hot apple cider and the crackling warmth of the fire, cherishing the quiet moments shared with loved ones.
Day 5: Moose Encounters and Lakeside Picnics
Our final day on the island was a symphony of natural wonders and serendipitous encounters. From spotting baby moose nestled in the grass to frolicking on sun-drenched beaches, each moment was a testament to the beauty and diversity of the Canadian wilderness. As we bid farewell to our island retreat, we carried with us memories of laughter, adventure, and the timeless allure of nature’s embrace.
